The Lib Dems will say anything to get elected. But their policies don’t add up…
The Lib Dem crime plan
LIB DEM SUMS DON’T ADD UP
The Liberal Democrats can’t be trusted with your money. Nationally they have a long list of spending plans that don’t add up, and economic policies that threaten jobs. And they can’t match Labour’s investment in health and education.
They say they want to bring in a new income tax locally but they can’t say how much it would be. In fact their own internal briefing note for the 2003 elections said: “we might get asked about the rate of local income tax we expect we would levy…we don’t want to be drawn extensively on this!”
The Liberal Democrats wont come clean about the true cost of their spending plans. Their sums simply do not add up!
THE LIB DEMS WOULD HIT HARD WORKING FAMILIES
The Liberal Democrats have opposed Labour’s measures to create a fairer economy for hard working families. They opposed the New Deal, which has helped create 1.5 million new jobs. They opposed this year’s increase of the national minimum wage. They opposed the introduction of the Working Families Tax Credit.
Labour is delivering for hard working families, through the Working Tax Credit and the rise in the national minimum wage.
THE LIB DEMS ARE SOFT ON CRIME
The Liberal Democrats opposed the government’s legislation to crack down on anti-social behaviour, voting against it in parliament. They voted against our actions of:
And their policies on drugs are out of touch and extreme. They would downgrade ecstasy and soften prison sentences for drugs offenders.
LIB DEMS LET PEOPLE DOWN
Experience all over the country shows that when the Liberal Democrats gain control, election promises are broken and council services are cut. They’ll say anything to get elected but when they get in, they let people down.
Let’s make sure Nottingham isn’t another Lib Dem let down.
As recent experience in Derby, Sheffield, and Leicester has shown, when the Lib Dems get in, cuts to council services follow, people are quickly disillusioned and even their own councillors end up defecting to other parties.
The Liberal Democrats cannot be trusted to run local councils, and once elected the voters quickly realise this and vote them out again. The history of the Liberal Democrats in local government is a history of councils gained and then quickly lost again.
