RESPECT FOR THE CLIMATE
Nottingham Labour is committed to making the changes neccesary to tackle the issue of climate change and seeking to introduce policies of sustainability.
Through ensuring that council asssess the impact of its activities on climate change, and working with its partners we are working towards becoming a carbon neutral city. Since 200 we have driven recycling up from 4% to just short of 22% by then of this year. And we will keep on driving this figure up.
We have taken the politcal leadership of this issue with local authorities, such as the “Nottingham Declaration” which has nearly half the local authorities in England signed up to sustainability and working with US local authorities to develop sustainable policies.

INVESTING IN THE FUTURE…
Since 2003 there have been major changes on the transport front in Nottingham. The arrival of the Tram has changed the landscape of the City forever, and the recent announcement of lines two and three mean even more Nottingham residents will soon be able to benefit.
Nottingham’s buses too have seen major improvements over the last four years. Nottingham now has one of the newest bus fleets in the country thanks to its two award winning bus companies. Nottingham City Transport in particular has been at the forefront of new developments such as CCTV on buses, new types of buses and the expansion of the City Card.
In addition to the quality of the services on offer in Nottingham, the Council has invested in ensuring that the elderly in particular benefit from the excellent transport facilities. The benefits of the old concessionary fare scheme have been expanded to the Tram in addition the card can be used at anytime after 9.30, and now allows users to travel to some places beyond the City Boundary.

INVESTING IN NEIGHBOURHOODS..
It’s not just Transport where there is good news though. Nottingham Labour has continued to invest in local neighbourhoods, making this a key priority of the last four years. Every neighbourhood in the City has received considerable investment with many receiving new schools, children’s centres and investment in parks in addition to money going into pavements, street lights and extra bins.
The 2006 budget saw the announcement of £22 million worth of spending in local neighbourhoods, of which a minimum of £15 million was guaranteed to be used for replacing old pavements. It is this kind of investment that shows how much Nottingham Labour values the many neighbourhoods that make up our great city.
