A Cleaner City

Cleaner NottinghamINVESTING IN NEIGHBOURHOODS
We know how important clean streets are, it’s an issue that comes up again and again in talking to local people. All of Labour’s candidates live in Nottingham too, so we feel as passionate about it as other local residents. That’s why we’ve put resources and effort into making sure that Nottingham has streets to be proud of.

These efforts are paying off too. Since 2003 Nottingham has become the cleanest major City in England as judged by independent auditors. Far from taking our eye off the ball, we’re now pushing to make Nottingham even cleaner, as part of this year’s budget we are installing 1,000 new litter bins in the City.

cleaner_003_3a.jpg This progress on street cleaning is matched by efforts to tackle other issues which make the City look run down and uncared for. Since 2005 over 2,500 Fixed Penalty Notices have been issued to individuals for littering offences. The expansion of the number of graffiti removal teams from one to four has helped us remove nearly 15,000 square metres of Graffiti from Nottingham’s walls in the year from April 2005. In the same period we cleaned up 17,000 fly tips.

It’s not just on the streets that Nottingham Labour has worked hard to tackle waste issues. Nottingham now has the fastest growing rates of recycling of England’s major cities, with 113,000 more homes having kerbside recycling than when we were elected in 2003.
