The Government’s SureStart programme has helped hundreds of thousands of people all over the country. It aims to improve the quality of childcare,
early education, health and family support in our communities. It’s a sign of how seriously the government takes tackling inequality and how seriously they want to make sure that all children and young parents get the best possible opportunities.
That’s why Nottingham Labour is so proud that Basford’s own Sure Start Children’s Centre opened officially onJuly 4th
. The £500,000 centre, located behind Whitemoor Primary School in Bracknell Crescent, offers a range of services to Basford residents across the area with children under the age of five years. These services can take place at the Centre or in the home. The Centre provides help with early learning, care, family support and health ser vices as well as training and employment advice. Services include antenatal sessions, stay
and play groups, young parents groups, drop-in health clinics, family support, toy libraries, training courses and child care.
Cllr Cat Arnold welcomed the new Sure Start.“This really meets the needs of parents and carers in Basford,” she said.“There’s something for ever ybody – play groups, parents’ groups, toy libraries and drop-in clinics to name but a few. Adequate child-care facilities are vital for families. A SureStart provides help and support for families and carers as well as enabling mums to get back to work.” Cllr Mick Newton said“The services that Basford SureStart provides are going to make such a positive impact in our community. It fits the wide range of needs that our children have in Basford. But it’s not just about the children it’s a chance for parents to pick up skills, advice and opportunities too. That’s why we’re so excited about this project.”
