Top Marks for Nottingham’s Pupils

Nottingham Schools have continued their upward progress in GCSE results. This years results have seen an 8% increase of pupils achieving five or more A* to C grades, bringing the total number up to 53%. Of Nottingham’s 18 Secondary Schools, 15 achieved their best ever results. Overall, the City’s schools have exceeded their targets, and have also achieved good results in vocational and technical qualifications.

Councillor Jane Urquhart, Nottingham City Council’s portfolio holder for Children’s Services said, “These results show the huge amount of work that the pupils, staff and head teachers have put in. They deserve praise for their determination and congratulations for their achievements. Alongside the improving standards in primary schools, this has been a good year for city school’s”

Jon Collins, Leader of Nottingham City Council, added “The Nottingham Labour Party has committed itself to raising standards and achievement in City Schools and has put in the investment to achieve this. These results are a good sign. The ‘Building Schools for The Future’ programme is a further sign of our commitment to the City’s children and despite the Tories and Liberals opposition to increasing investment, we will continue to put the pupils first. “
