Councillors Cat Arnold, Rob Lee and Mick Newton recently asked the Leader of the Council, Jon Collins, to check out the standards of pavement renewal in their area following a complaint from a local resident, Richard Melville.
Other concerns raised with the Leader of the Council during the tour included; the lack of proper pedestrian facilities on Vernon Road, especially around the David’s Lane crossing, which affects children and parents going to school at Southwark Infants and Juniors; off-street parking on Western Boulevard; employment opportunities on the Basford Gas Works site; investment opportunties for the local parks in the area – especially Vernon and Heathfield Parks.
Cat, Rob and Lee won an emphatic victory at the recent local election in May 2007. Commenting Cllr Arnold said “I believe we won because we worked hard for local people and because we listen to local concerns and act on them. Local people know we’re on their side.”
