Crushing the mini-motos

Two mini-motorbikes a week have been crushed in the last year for being ridden illegally on streets, parks or other public places. High-profile publicity has alerted residents to the laws governing the use of mini-motos and details of all those caught on CCTV are reported to the Police, and where relevant, to Nottingham City Homes.

Local resident Dee Whitworth said , “There was a real problem with motorbike and mini motos being driven down on the Victoria Embankement and fields and on the streets around the area. We were getting very frustrated and concered that a serious accident was just around the corner. We contacted the local Liberal Councillor to voice our concerns, but she failed to attend any of the local Tenants & Residents Groups meetings to discuss the matter.”

Laour candidate Sarah Piper was then approached and She took the matter up with the Leader of the Council, Jon Collins. “Jon new of the problem we wherehaving as there was a similar problem in his area. So we looked at way ofco-ordinating the councils efforts to tackle this problem and how work could be done with Police.” Adding “The Police have taken this problem very seriously and as result of the work done by everyone, we no longer have the problem in the Meadows.”

Trading Standards has also contacted petrol stations to inform them of the campaign and to remind them of the laws regarding petrol sales to under 16s.

Seven children across the country have lost their lives in rideing accidents and one pedestrian was badly injured in a collision. A number of councils and police forces round the country are now following Nottingham’s lead in taking tough action.

Reports of this or other nuisance can call the Antisocial Behaviour Hotline on 9152020.
